| Six. Kitchen & Hearth Room Addition |
|
We believe that an addition must be respectful of the original home’s
architecture and enhance the design and details of the original home.
That is exactly what we were able to accomplish with this
Kitchen, Eating Area, and Hearth Room remodel/addition.
We carefully matched the new and original brick on the exterior
and exposed some of the original exterior brick within the interior of
the addition. Inside and
out, the materials, details, and overall form of the addition ties in
nicely without overwhelming the scale of the original home. Inside, the newly created open floor plan created a less formal gathering area in the home. The composition of distressed and stained maple cabinetry and trim, tile floors, and red granite counters, in conjunction with the exposed brick allows for a warm and inviting space to gather with family and friends before, during, or after meal time. The orientation of the windows and French doors in the addition allowed for wonderful views of the backyard as well as three different cathedral towers in the distance. This project represents yet another example of how we are able to carefully design open floor plans that work with our current lifestyle, yet are respectful of the original architectural details, materials, and scale found in older homes. |
