This new residence sits on 50 acres overlooking the
loess hills of
Western Iowa.
The
homeowners request for the house was to have a rural, comfortable,
casual
California
style with plenty of southern views overlooking the rolling hills.
Large overhangs over the Living Room shade the windows from
the sun.
Main upper
level balconies and patio allow for expanded living outdoors and
views in all directions over the adjacent valleys.
Bluestone flagstone was installed in Patio areas including
the walkout Lower Level Patio.
Exterior concrete stone wainscot wraps around the house and
bronze metal standing seam roof areas give accent and interest to
special windows of the house.
All windows were designed with limited grilles to maximize
views outside.
On the
interior, the main body of the house incorporates prefinished,
hand-scraped walnut floor with alternating boards.
The Kitchen has a custom designed oversized
Island
with a bleached maple top reminiscent of an older furniture piece.
The Master Suite is on the east side of the house to capture
the morning sun and has its own Laundry Room adjacent to the Master
Bath for ease of use.
The Sunroom has an irregular stone fireplace surround to create a
relaxed casual feel.
Each room of the entire house is intended to have a very personal,
casual, intimate scale. |
